SENATOR JOHN MOORLACH NAMED TO NATIONAL “DIRTY DOZEN” LIST
Orange County, CA – Today, the California Environmental Voters Small Contributor Committee announced that State Senator John Moorlach (SD-37) has been named to the “Dirty Dozen in the States” list, only the second Californian in history to be given this dubious recognition. The list is a national compilation of the worst environmental candidates at the state and local level.
“Senator Moorlach is out of step with his district,” said Mike Young, EnviroVoters’ Political Director. “He represents a significant portion of suburban and coastal Orange County. Residents of these communities care about the environment, especially coastal protection. John Moorlach consistently votes against the environment.”
Senator Moorlach does not accept the science proving that the climate crisis is caused by human activities. In fact, he authored a report on the topic and wrote that “from what I have seen, the data does not convince me that human activity is a primary or significant driver in warming the globe.”
“John Moorlach is more interested in helping out Big Oil than solving the climate crisis and protecting the health and wellbeing of his constituents,” Young continued. “The climate crisis doesn’t care what Moorlach believes. But the voters in SD 37 should. They deserve better than a climate denier funded and supported by corporate polluters.”
Senator Moorlach has a 10% lifetime score on EnviroVoters’ California Environmental Scorecard. In 2016, John Moorlach opposed SB 32, which continued and expanded California’s landmark climate and clean energy law. And in 2019, he opposed SB 1, which would have defended California from the Trump administration’s attempts to roll back environmental laws.
The “Dirty Dozens in the States” list is modeled after the League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund’s federal “Dirty Dozen” list. Members of the list have consistently sided against the environment and – regardless of party affiliation – are running in races targeted by the state affiliates of the League of Conservation Voters.
