Like a Good Neighbor, Big Oil Should Pay

(Or Face Justice in Court)

If you break something belonging to your neighbor, you pay to fix the damage. If you don’t pay, your neighbor takes you to court.

Big Oil plays by a different set of rules in California, despite causing more frequent and destructive climate disasters and fueling an insurance affordability crisis. Senate Bill 222, the Affordable Insurance and Climate Recovery Act, brings overdue accountability for oil companies. It makes them pay their fair share for the climate disasters they cause to help victims rebuild and keep home insurance affordable.

Big Oil caused the climate crisis.

California’s biggest oil companies pioneered climate science and climate denial in the 1950s when they first learned that the pollution caused from burning fossil fuels is dangerous for our climate.

Californians are paying the price to clean up Big Oil’s mess. Record wildfires, flooding, landslides, and other disasters fueled by advancing climate change are driving up insurance costs while Big Oil rakes in record profits and robs us at the pump.

Had enough? SB 222 is the only way to stop the strain Big Oil is imposing on California’s families and businesses.
