Sacramento, CA – Today, the California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement regarding the Governor’s proposed 2021-2022 state budget.

Statement from Mike Young, Political & Organizing Director, EnviroVoters:

“We are thrilled to see that Governor Newsom’s budget proposal includes funding that follows-up from his Executive Order regarding zero emission cars and trucks. With $1.5 billion in investments to electrify our transportation sector, including multi-year funding for zero emission vehicle infrastructure, California can begin to make a dent in the largest source of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions.

We support desperately needed immediate emergency relief for small businesses, low-income families, and Californians who are on the verge of eviction. It’s imperative that California’s leaders think bigger and bolder about investing in a long-term green and just recovery that meets the scale of the climate and economic crises, which are rooted in extractive industry practices and wealth inequality.

The climate crisis is not on hold during the current global health crisis. With just nine years left to address the most serious impacts of the climate crisis, California has a responsibility as a global climate leader to create and enact the roadmap for achieving climate justice – one that will protect our natural resources, increase our resiliency to wildfires, and ensure a just workforce transition. The time is now.”

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
