OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Legislature’s House of Origin deadline results.

Statement from Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, California Environmental Voters:

“California is failing to meet the moment. Too many critical affordability, health, and economic opportunity solutions — that would have cleaned up our air, lowered insurance and energy rates, funded our climate resilience and clean energy transition, and helped struggling families access safe drinking water — didn’t even make it to the floor for a vote. At a time when Californians are being hit hard by the financial and physical burdens of the climate crisis, this kind of inaction is unacceptable.

This session has exposed a dangerous lack of vision and political courage from our legislature right now. Californians are already living with the consequences of inaction: dirty air, polluted water, rising insurance, healthcare, and energy costs, and unnatural disasters that grow more destructive by the year. The world has long looked to California for innovation and leadership, but right now our leaders are not delivering.

We’re only halfway through the legislative session, and we have to change course. Our legislators still have a chance to step up and prioritize climate justice and action.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS

California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
